October 7th was the first time we went to this office. The experience from the scheduling was surprisingly pleasant. Immediate availability, support in finding the validity of my insurance since I did not have the card, helpful attitude for efficiency in managing time to fill out forms; kindness and respect for customers by the receptionists, clarity in constant communication, step by step, by the hygienist, technicians and dental assistants, and of course the dentist. The cleaning procedure was handled with professionalism and they constantly asked me if I was comfortable, if I was in pain, or if I needed something. This concern for details really makes the difference and is part of the values for which in my opinion it is outstanding, I recommend and feel satisfied for having made the right choice.

I am writing to address the response I received, which contains several inaccuracies about our experience. Firstly, it is clear that this is not Dr. Alex Newman replying to me but rather the office manager. I know this because you were the individual who took my son’s X-rays using the panoramic machine—the one that rotates around the head. Your bias is evident, both in your tone and in how misinformed you are about what really happened. It is unfortunate that you feel the need to distort the facts to protect the office, but I want to make it clear that I know the truth, and I will not allow our experience to be misrepresented. You were not present for the key conversations that took place between myself, Dr. Newman, the front desk staff, and the dental assistant. I informed the front desk when I scheduled the appointment that I only wanted my son’s bottom left tooth filled. This was not only stated once but reiterated multiple times. I made this very clear when speaking with the dental assistant during the appointment, and she communicated my request to Dr. Newman. Despite this, Dr. Newman proceeded with freezing the top left tooth. When I told the dental assistant again that I only wanted the bottom left tooth filled, she passed the message along, and Dr. Newman acknowledged this, stating that the front staff had informed him of my instructions. At that moment, Dr. Newman made it clear that my request didn’t matter to him by saying, "I’ll talk to the mother because she wants one thing, but I know what’s best for the child." This dismissive and paternalistic attitude made me feel powerless as a mother regarding my child's treatment. Even after I clearly told him I wanted only the bottom left tooth filled, Dr. Newman continued with what he had already decided, completely disregarding my wishes. What truly bothers me is how you seem upset that I, as a Black mother, am voicing my concerns about how my authority over my son's dental care was stripped away during this visit. At no point did I accuse Dr. Newman of being racist; I am expressing my personal experience, and that experience matters. You also attempted to bring up our insurance, insinuating that our insurance is “low-end,” which is irrelevant and misleading. Regardless of our insurance, we are entitled to proper communication and consent regarding my son's treatment. Dr. Newman performed multiple fillings without our consent, which violates our rights as patients. What I’ve learned from this experience is to never allow another dentist to make decisions without my full consent. My priority is my children’s well-being, and I will continue to advocate for them in situations where our rights are at stake.

We had a horrible experience with Dr. Alex Newman. I took my 14-year-old son to him because he was experiencing pain in his teeth. My son has healthy teeth, is strong, and has good bones. We trusted this man, and he took advantage of us. He examined my son’s teeth, and one tooth that had a filling from the age of six had deteriorated and eventually needed a root canal. As for his other teeth that had cavities, I only wanted the visible cavities filled, not the ones detected by his X-ray machine. Instead, Dr. Newman proceeded to do fillings on my son without listening to me and without my consent. We were taken advantage of because of the type of insurance we have, where dentists can run up the bill and get paid. Whenever a dentist sees our insurance, they just want to make money off us—I’ve had this experience before. He did many fillings, and as a mother, my heart sank when he didn’t listen. He filled nine cavities, and now those fillings need to be redone or may require root canals in the future. He has destroyed my son’s dental health. To add insult to injury, he began a root canal on my son, doing the first part, but never completed the procedure. You’re supposed to return for a second appointment, but he never apologized for what he did, and now my son could lose the tooth because of the unfinished root canal. We’ll have to find another dentist to finish the work. Dr. Newman made a remark that he lost a tooth at 17 because his dentist did a bad job on a root canal. When he said that, he assumed my son was 17, and I had to correct him, telling him my son is only 14. Now, my son risks losing his tooth because of Dr. Newman’s negligence. Dr. Newman, if you became a dentist due to your bad experience of losing a tooth at 17, only you know if you’re in this profession to help others or just to make money. You have hurt us deeply. Know that this life is temporary, and your actions are accounted for. What goes around comes around. If you treated us like we don’t matter because we are Black, know that God is watching. One day, my son and I will get justice, because I believe in God—the same Creator who made you and who sees all. To make matters worse, Dr. Newman filled not only the teeth I didn’t consent to but also an additional tooth next to the one with the root canal. I wasn’t informed until after the procedure when he casually mentioned, “I fixed this tooth as well.” My instructions were ignored, and my authority as the parent was disregarded. ⬇️⬇️You removed my detailed response, but readers should know that my son was treated unfairly. Fillings were done on his teeth without my consent, and I was only informed after the procedure was completed. Please make sure you are fully aware before any fillings are done on your child. My son is now suffering from pain and sensitivity in his teeth. Dr. Newman never showed concern for my child’s health. If he had, he would have completed the root canal he started. Thank you.
